A little explanation of the Lord's Prayer.

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

In this prayer we are told to address the Father in Heaven. Jesus did not teach us to pray to himself. He shows us here to venerate or make Holy the name of the Father. We are to come into His presence knowing He is Holy and precious. We are a sinful race of people, yet God alone is Holy and without sin. We should keep this in mind a approach Him with respect.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus announced that the Kingdom of God had come as He preached therefore we should be doing the will of God on earth today, right now, just as it is done in heaven. We should be listening to the Holy Spirit and getting orders and doing the will of God.

Many people can't wait for the day that the will of God will be getting done on earth when Jesus rules on earth after the judgment of Revelation.

But until that time we should be doing our best to do the Father's will in our own lives as it is done by angels and saints in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

This bread that we ask for is two-fold. This is not only the material food that we need for life that we are asking for here, but it is also divine revelation in the Word of God called spiritual bread.

Over one billion people in the world only eat one meal a day and so many of them are going without much food each day. We are very fortunate that we are living with such wealth and enough money to eat more then one meal a day.

Jesus and His Holy Spirit are very happy to open up the Word of God to us each day and give us spiritual food if we are hungry enough. If we are living in disobedience or not doing much to show the Lord we are interested in His kingdom we might find the Bible dry and hard to understand.

And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

We need to forgive people. Jesus has addressed this already and yet he wants us to include it in our prayer life. This is time to stop at this part of the prayer and name our debtors one by one and name our sins one by one.

Life can seize up spiritually if we do not forgive. I suggest that you do so.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.

I am not sure that the Father would ever deliver us into temptation, but I am sure that with prayer He delivers us from the evil one. Of course we want to be free of the addictions and sins that we are in or else we will stay bound.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

We need to remember to give the Father the glory in all that we do.
